After NFL Shop posted an innocent product image on their website, speculation has grown that the image contained the new logo and typeface for the Detroit Lions. Apparently upon realizing this had happened, the image was removed from the site. Unfortunately, by the time this was done, the image had already made its way onto the net.
According to discussion on the Chris Creamer's Sports Logo Page message boards and in the Detroit Free Press, this could very well be the Lion's updated look for this season. It looks like the lions modernized
the logo (on the left) a bit and also added some detail to the lion image, making it look a bit more realistic than the previous version (on the right). The typeface is much different than what the Lions have used in the past.
After the miserable season for the Lions last year, at least this has people talking about the team. Maybe a logo upgrade will be the catalyst for a better season ahead. Remember when the Bengals switched logos in the very early 1980's, they made a run all the way to Super Bowl 16.

That is the new Lions logo. You will see it for the first time at Draft Day, 09 when the player puts on his cap.
