Today's Old School Design is a look at a Houston Astros schedule from 1980. This schedule is right out of the heart of the Astros rainbow stripe uniform era. The 1980 season saw the Astros win the National League Western Division, eventually losing to the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Championship Series. The 1980 Astros team was loaded with familiar names like Nolan Ryan, J.R. Richard, Joe Morgan, Jose' Cruz, Enos Cabell, Art Howe, Terry Puhl, and Cesar Cedeno.
This schedule features the classic Astrodome logo and the flavor of the team's unique uniform look. The ticket prices listed on the back panel are hard to believe. There is also a look at some of the giveaway promotions the team had planned for the 1980 season. I wish I could hop in my Delorean and time-travel back to those dates!
The inside of the schedule features your typical 2 color schedule grid. Not much flair in the design, but typical of what schedules looked like at the time. The July 4th game at Cincinnati marked the game that Nolan Ryan recorded his 3000th strikeout.
